Cutting the Fantasy Before It Burns Billions

Image

Government isn’t a venture capitalist. It shouldn’t fund moonshots that still cost $1,000 per ton to remove 0.04% of the air.

Direct air capture isn’t clean tech. It’s tech theater—an energy-intensive fantasy with no path to scale, even under optimistic projections. The idea that taxpayers should subsidize speculative startups to do what trees already do for free is environmental malpractice. If a private company believes it can beat photosynthesis, let them prove it with their own money.

Cutting funding to this sector isn’t a setback. It’s a correction. Energy policy should support solutions that are scalable, reliable, and economically rational—not PR-safe experiments for ESG scorekeepers.

America leads when it backs innovation that works. Not when it signs blank checks to carbon alchemists.
